The Kwara State People's Democratic Party (PDP) has been berated by a socio-political group, the Progressive Nation Initiative, for hiding under projects hugely financed by the Federal Government to score political points on their billboards erected across Ilorin metropolis.
In a statement sent to newsmen on Tuesday, Secretary of the group, Kehinde Daramola called out Kwara PDP over dishonesty and trying to score cheap popularity.
Kwara PDP had erected billboards in the state capital where they paraded a number of projects as their achievements.
PNI has however disagreed with this claim, noting most of the projects are FG projects, while many others are failure and/or incomplete.
He wrote: “In Kwara State, there is a consensus that the PDP elements who ruled the state for 20 years failed woefully. That was why we did the Otoge struggle in 2019. They did not provide the least of basic amenities such as water, road, access to quality healthcare and basic education. Therefore, the people of Kwara spoke in one voice to displace them to the extent that they did not get a single elective position in the state.
“We are however surprised to see these displaced politicians trying to insult the sensibilities of Kwarans by parading projects belonging to the Federal Government as their achievements in some highfalutin billboards. Most of these projects were financially sponsored by the Federal Government. Former Governor Bukola Saraki cannot for instance say he did not collect full payment to the Post Office to Post Office Flyover he claimed to have built. Record shows he got payment but he was silent on it and continue to parade an FG-sponsored project as one of his party's achievement. That's daylight robbery,” the statement added.
“Our people also know the huge financial resources committed by the Federal Government in establishing Kwara State University (KWASU). About 90% of the structures and buildings at KWASU were built by the Federal Government through TETFUND. But these shameless Kwara PDP are now trying to outshine the FG in glory. Kwara people must never be bamboozled. Cargo Terminal was also another project chiefly financed by the Federal Government. Yet the Saraki people couldn't manage it properly to succeed. What a shame! The renovation of the Ilorin Airport which they also make so much noise about was paid for by the FG and they continue to brag about it. After 20 years, the Saraki dynasty cannot showcase any meaningful projects they have carried out with the huge financial resources, including FAAC, bailout, bond, loan, they got during their reign. The Metropolitan Square was left uncompleted after decades. The Diamond Underpass has now become an eyesore. Shonga Farms is a collosal failure.
“We are therefore using this statement to alert Kwarans to this subterfuge of the opposition party in Kwara State and their social media bandits. Kwara people should not be deceived by their lies and fallacies. We berate the Kwara PDP for trying to hoodwink our people by spreading half-truths. Never again will Kwara go back to their wasteful years,” the group said.
