Ogun: Count me out of Agosasa crisis - High Chief Ajibola

By Our Correspondent

The Oga-Ilu of Agosasaland, High Chief Fatai Ajibola, has reacted to the allegations of sponsoring the recent crisis that engulfed the town.

Alhaji Fatai Ajibola who is also the Oga Ilu of Agosasa said the allegations by  Agosasa Youth Development Forum (AYDF) alleging his sponsorship of the recent clashes that have thrown Agosasa township in Ipokia Local Government of Ogun State, into turmoil, is untrue of lack basis.

His words, "My attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the Agosasa Youth Development Forum (AYDF) alleging I sponsored the recent clashes that have thrown Agosasa township in Ipokia Local Government of Ogun State, into turmoil, claimed lives and left properties destroyed.

The group youths also alleged that the crisis has nothing to do with the vacant stool of the Oja of Agosasa, but a politically motivated skirmishes over struggle for power ahead of the 2023 election.

"As the Oga Ilu of Agosasaland,  I make bold to say that these youths are not known as indigenes of Agosasa. It is very clear that they were sponsored to write such an unwarranted and disturbing statement with the aim to smear my character by their paymasters who are enemies of the peace-loving Agosasa indigenes and residents as a whole.

"The crisis in Agosasa has nothing to do with politics or individual interest. The allegation that I masterminded the crisis was false and concocted lies from the pit-of-hell. As an elder and a chief in Agosasa, I could not have orchestrated attacks and bloodshed on my people. I can never wish for or support a crisis in my area. I am the " Oga Ilu" of Agosasa.

"To set the record straight, I was not at home on the day of the unfortunate incident. I heard about it and I immediately called the elders at home to make peace. Achieving an immediate resolution could not be achieved because some of the youths had already been shot in the cause of the crisis

Alhaji Fatai Ajibola, said that he was "not happy that people had to die and property destroyed. I am a chief in Agosasa and all I am after in my community is peace

"I received a letter from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in which I honoured the invitation and from there to the DSS office with Mr Akeem Adigun. I spent a night at the DSS office, and I was released the evening of the next day.

I was not tortured nor transferred to DSS office in Abuja as being circulated all around.

What happened in Agosasa is not what any true son of the land should be happy about or prayed for.

We don't have the power to Install the oba, we are not the government, we have written series of letters to the LG, the paramount ruler of yewa land and other concerned institutions. We await the Government's decision.

"While trying to resolve the crisis, I want to urge those behind the smearing campaign to retrace their steps and work for the peace and unity of the community.
We don't have the power to Install the oba, we are not the government, we have written series of letters to the LG, the paramount ruler of yewa land and other concerned institutions. We await the Government's decision.

"However, Obaship in Agosasa is not a thing we can just bring in an outsider to rule the people. Somebody who is the true son of Agosasa, who is also entitled to the throne has been chosen by the committee of Elders and the  good people of Agosasa were in support of the person.
