Residents of Geleodun, a village in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State have petitioned the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, over the alleged activity of one Jamiu Abolade Omigade who was allegedly deposed recently.
In the petition dated 2nd March, 2022 and copy of which was obtained by Our Correspondent was said to have emanated from the entire Ogboni, Ologun, Olorogun and paramount Chiefs of Obaland traditional council of chiefs
The petitioners stated that "the entire members of the OGBONI, OLOGUN, OLOROGUN and PARAMOUNT CHIEFS of Oba-Land Traditional Council of Chiefs unanimously agreed during the recent meeting that we should quickly bring to your notice about the evil conducts of the said Mr. Jamiu Abolade Omigade, who was suspended as former Baale (Village Head) of Geleodun Village on the 14th January 2017 due to his act of indiscipline to Traditional Prescribed Authority, Thuggery, Stealing and Humiliation of the natives and residents of Geleodun Village and its environs through disorderly sales of people's land at Geleodun Village.
"Mr Jamiu Abolade Omigade is a native of Igbore whose forefathers had settled at Geleodun Village on Obaland amongst other Igbore people.
"He was unanimously installed as the Baale (Village head) Geleodun Village in the year 2014 by the Alake of Egbaland under the recommendation of the Igbore Traditional council of Chiefs
"He was suspended in the year 2017 by the same Igbore same Igbore Traditional Chiefs on the instruction of the prescribed authority of the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland.
The petitioners claimed that "In spite of his removal Jamiu Abolade Omigade has continued to parade himself as the Baale of Geleodun Village to cause the breach of peace and threatening people's life.
"We have to state clearly that, this said Mr. Jamiu Abolade Omigade was tried and convicted on the August 2020 amongst other conspirators in the Judgment of the Chief Magistrates of Ogun State of Nigeria the, Obafemi/Owode Magisterial District.
"Also, its pertinent to keep you informed that, His Royal Majesty Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland had since written a letter dated 30th January, 2020 been addressed to the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Nigeria Police Owode-Egba Area Command against the said Mr. Jamiu Abolade Omigade of his deposition being the erstwhile Baale of Geleodun Village.
In this regard, the Alake of Egbaland requested the Commissioner of Police to please invite the said Mr. Jamiu Abolade Omigade to sign a peaceful undertaking letter in the interest of peace in Geleodun Village and that Mr. Jamiu Omigade should stop parading himself as the Baale of Geleodun including the removal of all the illegal signboards he had erected to cause confusions in like manner to cause the breach of peace.
In addition, it should be noted that the said Mr. Jamiu Abolade Omigade has never taken any administrative steps against his suspension as the Baale to the Kabiyesi Alake of Egbaland, the prescribed authority or to the Ogun State Ministry for Local
Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for possible remedy for complete good two calendar years of his suspension before the new Baale was officially installed by the Alake of Egbaland. Instead he (Jamiu Omigade) subsequently shun off all the procedural meetings with the lgbore Traditional Council of Chiefs also disrespecting and disregarded to the intervention of the Alake of Egbaland on the alleged case of Stealing and malicious damages at Akolu village via Geleodun reported against him which later led to his conviction in the Chief Magistrate Court in Owode-Egba and sentenced to 4 years imprisonment. in this view, instead Mr. Jamiu Abolade Omigade to learn from his past, he even trying to turn to habitual criminal in the society as his previous conviction in the Court of Law had not act upon his mind to desist from bad character.
In the nutshell Sir, we so much count on you, to use your good office to bring this ex- convict man and all his cohorts to book. We also highly suggested that this case should be properly handled by the Apex Investigation Department at Eleweran, Abeokuta for discreet Investigation for his avowed promises to claim the precious life of the new Baale Chief Adesina Aremu Adenekan and other villagers.
"Finally, we look forward for the approval of our letter while we pledge to give all necessary information that may help in this matter without delay to curb any further incessant harassment that may lead to bloodshed in Geleodun Village.
