The Village Headmaster‘, an iconic Nigerian TV drama, has been rebooted for TV screens after decades of hiatus.
Globacom, Nigeria telecommunication giant, announced the return of the TV show in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement said the rebooted series has “undergone a spectacular make-over by Wale Adenuga’s WAPTV to delight our subscribers and Nigerians in general.”
“The Village Headmaster remains unmatched and unparalleled in the annals of Nigerian television,” the statement read.
“As an innovative technology company committed to excellence, Globacom is delighted to be bringing back this iconic television program which has undergone a spectacular make-over by Wale Adenuga’s WapTV to delight our subscribers and Nigerians in general.”
The popular TV drama was created by Segun Olusola and Dejumo Lewis and began its life as a radio program on Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) before migrating to television in 1958.
It ran for over three decades and became a purveyor belt of acting talents. The programme became one of the most popular Nigerian TV soap operas until 1988.
Justus Esiri was the eponymous village headmaster having taken over from Ted Mukoro, who was the first to play the role.
Chris Iheuwa, Nollywood actor, will now step into the role in the rebooted show.
‘The Village Headmaster’ will return to television screens on April 24, 2022, and will be broadcast on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) on Sundays from 8-9 pm; on Africa Independent Television (AIT) on Wednesday from 9-10 pm; and WapTV every Friday from 8-9 pm.
