A conglomeration of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presidential support group on Monday met in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital reacting to the declaration of the Vice President to run for the highest political office in the country.
The groups which consist of 'The Osinbajo Project (TOP) and The Progressives Consolidate Group, (TPCG) in their hundreds called on Nigerians to give maximum support to the Presidential aspiration of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as he remained a better candidate to salvage the country from the myriads of challenges confronting it.
Speaking at the rally, the Ogun Central coordinator of The Osinbajo Project, Engr Babatunde Folarin asked for the support of all aspirants in the All Progressives Congress, including Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Osinbajo declared his intention to contest the presidency on Monday, with a ten point agenda vowed to continue in the project of taking the country out of the security challenges facing it.
Speaking at a rally held at Sokori, Abeokuta, the group which came from all the three senatorial districts in Ogun State also called on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to willingly step down for Osinbajo saying that the vice-president has many supporters across the country.
“Asiwaju is a great leader of our party and his role in bringing about an Osinbajo vice-presidency has been vindicated, having performed creditably, impressing President Buhari and millions of Nigerians,” he said.
“As a leader, when you have brought a great idea, you should allow such to grow and Vice-President Osinbajo’s declaration for the 2023 presidency is a reflection of very sound growth and the next step is for Osinbajo to assume the presidency in 2023.
“We are very happy today seen our leader, Professor Yemi Osinbajo declaring contrary to insunation from some quarters that he may not, as a group, we have been rooting for him, from our findings, I can tell you that the Nigerian electorate is now much wiser, much more discerning and sophisticated than what you had in the past.
“The spontaneous rallies are a show of strength, asserting the power of the real people and it is a strong pointer to professor Yemi Osinbajo’s very bright chances for ultimate electoral victory.”
We are again appealing to Mr President, Muhammadu Buhari, all 36 State Governors, Senators, the 360 members of the National Assembly, the 774 local government chairmen, and all the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to endorse a worthy candidate in Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and give Nigerians a taste of his brilliance. Let us join hands with you to lift our country into greatness under the leadership of a true, God-fearing man.”
Also speaking, the Women Leader of the group, Mrs Akin Taiwo called on all women groups within the APC to work assiduously to the emergence of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the candidate of the party and the successor of President Muhammad Buhari come May, 2023.
The group which also addressed the Media at the Correspondent chapel vowed to tour all the 236 wards in the State to convince electorates on why it should be Osinbajo that will fly APC flag.
The State Coordinator of TOP, Otunba Olatunji Olaniyi assured that the group will begin mass mobilisation of all APC members including market men and women to ensure that their principal, Prof Osinbajo succeed President Muhammad Buhari.
