Gruesome murder of Olu of Agodo, Imo Egba Chiefs blast impostors, warn against distortion of history

By Aremu Sosanya

The Imo Council of Chiefs Abeokuta, Ogun State, has reacted to a press interview granted by one Ajani Sotade who claimed to be Baale of Agodo, a town in Ewekoro local government area of Ogun State.

The Council, a section of Egba Ake area of Egbaland said Sotade's statement during the interview negates the ethos expected of Yoruba elder and belittle wisdom expected from an 89 year old man, though his conspiracy in the murder of Oba Odetola is not in doubt, as all Intels showed that he has hands in the circumstances that led to the murder of Olu of Agodo, Oba Olajide Odetola.

It could be recalled that Sotade had accused Oba Odetola as a, a landgrabber, who had caused serious untold hardship in Agodo community.

But reacting, the Chiefs said it's unfortunate that rather for the octogenarian to condenm the criminal act of those that were responsible for the killing and burning of the corpse of the monarch, he is still engrossed in who is the authentic traditional ruler of the town.

It's a taboo in Yorubaland to talk evil of the dead due to the fact that the dead won't be around to defend himself, but in the case of Sotade rather for him to condenm in totality the killing of human being like him, he was engrossed in the Chieftaincy tussle which he knew deep down within himself that all he told the media were lies nothing but lies

While we do not want to engage rabble-rouser like him and others who are bent in distorting the history of Agodo for thier selfish gains, we want to call on law enforcement agencies to beam their searchlights on these people because we know they are the sponsors of the killings and series of crisis going on in Agodo.

It's alien to kill even ordinary human being without provocation and then be rejoicing over his death, such is alien to Yorubaland.

We want to state in clear terms that the assassination of Oba Odetola is villainous, barbaric, senseless and we condemn it in its entirety. His death was as if it was in the movies but unfortunately, it was in real life.

While we want to appreciate the security agencies for their roles in unraveling the killings of Oba Odetola and others in Agodo town, we will appreciate if people like Sotade and his co-travellers are invited for the roles they played in causing havoc in Agodo town.

The entire Agodo town belongs to Imo section of Egbaland, we won't condone any acts of criminality and celebration of criminal elements as Sotades and some fake historians wanted to be doing, we are a peace loving people and very accommodating, his killing has passed the elastic limit, we called on security agencies to unravel the remote and immediate circumstances surrounding various crisis in Agodo and allow justice to take its full course.

We also called on government to come up with more aggressive security measures to stem future occurrence.

While condoling with the entire Agodo people over the incident, we prayed God to give Oba Odetola immediate family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

We also want to call on youths in Agodo to unite and continue to live in peace with all people saying that Imo Council of Chiefs have absolute trust in Police to bring the perpetrators to book.
