The National President of National Association of community newspapers and magazine publishers of Nigeria, (NACNMPN) Amona Tajudeen Oladehinde has charged members of the association on the importance of skills acquisition as well as understanding and upholding codes of practice advocated by the association.
Oladeinde who spoke while playing host to the Executive members of the Association from the North Central who paid him a courtesy visit after the national delegate conference held recently said , with the growth and sophistication of the media industry today and associated laws, “there is a need to train and retrain members on the ethics of news gathering and newspaper production.
He added that professionalism is an essential and critical process aimed at mitigating the risk of fake news, thereby threatening the essence of community journalism.
Amona Tajudeen Oladeinde further reiterated that skill acquisition cannot be underestimated to maintain a remarkable achievement in compliance with the rudiments of newspaper and magazine production.
“Compliance staff requires not just core technical skills but behavioural competencies to be effective in their roles and to reduce the organizational costs associated with compliance and regulatory risks”, he noted.
He said his Executive will take the issue of training and retraining very important to guide against charlatans and impostors from destroying the fundamentals of community journalism.
"We are going to work on behavioural competences, independent mindset, and Insights into relationship management both within and outside newspaper industry so as to strengthen people's confidence, among others.
Earlier the Northwest Coordinator of the Association Alhaji Dalhatu Abubakir who led the delegation urged the new Executives to work on the unity of members and compliance with the ethics of the Association.
“It’s time to instill compliance in the ways and manner we carry out our day to day activities,, it’s time we get things right and make integrity an issue and move the association forward.
In his thank you message, the Southwest coordinator, Abiodun Taiwo thanked members for the successful hosting of the national delegate conference while soliciting for more cooperation in order for the association to succeed in the task ahead.
