Ogun State House of Assembly member representing, Odeda State Constituency, Hon.Oludaisi Elemide and Gov Dapo Abiodun Chief of Staff, Alh Shuaibu Salisu have donated motorcycles to aid operations of Association of Hunters based in Odeda.

The gesture was handed over to leaders of the Hunters at a brief ceremony held at the residence of Hon. Elemide in Abeokuta.

Hon. Elemide while speaking on behalf of the donors, said the gesture is  to support the security operations of the hunters in order to curb the menace of insecurity in Odeda State constituency.

“We know the hunters can do much more, they have been working and assisting the security agencies within their limited capacities and I believe if they are given the necessary tools and support the hunters would do more in the areas of information gathering and aiding the police, as they are familiar with the terrains in their localities”.

He also urged the federal government to accord necessary recognitions to the hunters so as to further aid their work in the area of grassroots security networking, adding that the hunters should be used in a modernised way.

The Chairman of the Hunters Association in Odeda Local Government, Festus Olusoji Ogundairo while speaking to Journalists expressed gratitude to the donors.

“We thank them very much. Before this donation, they have been doing lot of things for the association especially Honourable Elemide and he also promised us they he will continue to do more”.

On the hunters relationship with Police, Ogundairo said, “we are trying our best , whenever criminal incident happened the police usually call on us, we work hand in hand with them. Then, we will have to look for motorcycles ourselves and rent it to go to the place. We thank them very much with this, our work will be easier.

“One of our achievements is that, there was one person killing and maiming people in Ogere then, and the police has tried very well but they could not catch him. They now called us to help them out but with the help of God the Operation was successful”.

On chanllenges facing hunters of the Odeda branch, he implored governments to equip them with necessary tools.

“Our problem is that our Governments believe that anybody that didn’t go to school does not have brain and his head is empty. Because if they kidnapped someone, the kidnappers are taking the person to the bush and some people have been living there for the past 20/30 years, you can’t expect that anybody living in Abeokuta should know everywhere. The issue of security is everybody responsibility. It is not only those in uniforms that need to work . In a situation whereby there are no instruments to work with it, cannot be easy

“If the government can get us Ak47, there is nothing bad in it. The gun we are using is becoming outdated. if the government can provide Ak47 for us, It will embolden us these people that are disturbing us are also using AK47

“Governments can as well give us cars, motorcycle can only carry 2 to 3 persons which is not enough. If government can get us Vechicle that can carry up to 20 people, it will surely make mobility easier for hunters” he concluded.
