…… to organize a 3-day viewing, discussion workshop

Two lecturers in the Department of Mass Communication, Caleb University, Dr Solomon Oyeleye and Mrs Ifedolapo Ademosu have won a grant from the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) to organise a local version of the 2021 edition of the Association’s international conference scheduled to hold in Nairobi, Kenya from July 12-15, 2021.
In a release signed by Olawale Adekoya, Information, Media and Publication Specialist for Caleb University, revealed that this is the 2nd time within one month that the duo of Dr Abiodun Oyeleye and Mrs Ifedolapo Ademosun, will be winning international awards.
"Recently, in a one of only two globally, they were named as
joint winners of the UNICEF-IAMCR C4D Research Grant for 2021, as contained in a letter from Elske van de Fliert, Director, Centre for Communication and Social Change, School of Communication and Arts, The University of Queensland, Australia".
"The Grant gives Caleb University an opportunity to host and localize the discussions around this year’s conference theme, “Rethinking Borders and Boundaries: Beyond the Global/Local Dichotomy in Communication Studies”, given the present challenges and discourse on identities and media representations in Nigeria.
The award was contained in a letter from Elske van de Fliert, an executive member of IAMCR’s International Board.
By this award, the Department of Mass Communication will host a 3 -day viewing and discussion workshop on its Imota Main Campus.
The opening day sessions, closing day sessions and selected sessions in between would be broadcast live to staff and students with postgraduate students expected to participate extensively.
There will be two Panel Discussions by senior Faculty members on the broad theme of the conference.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie, expressed delight over the development saying it reinforces the commitment of Caleb University to being active on the international stage where critical discourse is continually ongoing.
He enjoined staff and students of the Department of Mass Communication as well as other related disciplines to join the local meeting when the time comes.
Oyeleye, who is Acting Head of the Department, described the award as an opportunity to link Caleb University to the global community of scholars and researchers and expressed delight that staff and students would be able to join the conference in a real-life atmosphere.
Ademosu said the event will also cover special sessions on The Digital Divide , Audience Section as well as Health Communication. She added that Participants will include academic staff and stidents.
