The presidency on Sunday night re-issued a press statement containing the birthday greetings of President Muhammadu Buhari to ex-chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshimhole editing the part where he was admonished to shun the politics of bitterness and acrimony.
SalientTimes received the first version of the press statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity),Garba Shehu at 5:44pm. And it contained this paragraph: “As the former labour leader looks forward to joining the club of septuagenarians , the President urges him to rededicate his life to working for the prosperity of those in need, building bridges among people of diverse backgrounds and faith; and inspiring others to be patriotic, eschewing politics of division and acrimony.”
But by 10:51 pm, SalientTimes got the re-issued statement with the same paragraph edited. It read: “As the former labour leader looks forward to joining the club of septuagenarians , the President urges him to rededicate his life to working for the prosperity of those in need, building bridges among people of diverse backgrounds and faith; and inspiring others to be patriotic.”
Oshimhole who turned 69 had a controversial tenure which he did not complete, as APC Chairman. He was at loggerheads with some prominent members of the party. The National Working Committee of the party which he headed had to be dissolved by the National Executive Committee of the Party.
