Yewa South LG Boss condems killing of another youth by NCS on new year eve

The Transition Chairman of Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun state, Hon Fagbenro Rahmon Olabode has condemned the incessant killings of innocent residents of the local government by the Federal Operating Unit of the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS), saying that the government will investigate the killings.


Hon Fagbenro's reaction came amidst the alleged killing of a young man, in Oke-Odan, Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State by men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on New Year’s Eve.

It was gathered that the customs officers resorted to sporadic gunshots while chasing a suspected car smuggler along Idiroko border road.

This incident, it was gathered, led to a riot as youths of Oke-Odan barricaded the international road, causing heavy gridlock.

The irate youths made bonfires on the road as they threatened to engage the NCS officers, who were said to have fled the scene immediately the incident occurred.

Salient Times  reports that all customs checkpoints along the road were  vacated by officers while also creating a heavy gridlock, from Owode to Idiroko.


While placating the youths and residents of the area, Hon Fagbenro appealed for calm saying that  governments both at the State and federal will look into the unnecessary killings.

His words, "Following the incident that happened in Oke-Odam on Thursday 31st of December, 2020 where a life was lost to the sporadic gunshots of the Men of the Nigerian Customs Services, while I appeal for calm I want to assure you all that necessary people at the heslms of affairs in the State have been informed . 

"Be rest assured that investigation will be opened into the cause of the extra judicial killing while we go about our normal daily activities"
