Principals in Ogun State have been called upon to reciprocate government’s investment in training and re-training, by showing more commitment and dedication to duty.
The Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun made the call while declaring open a 3-day training retreat with the theme: "Effective Leadership and Management: Driving Force for Sustainability of Schools" put together by the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Ogun State branch in Abeokuta.
According to Ottun, commitment and dedication displayed by Principals in their different schools would raise the standard of education and in turn uplift the Gateway State to an enviable height.
" You must all show appreciation by complementing government's efforts in promoting quality education in our dear State and to achieve this, you must ensure that you work in unity and not in isolation; but rather in coalition for rapid progress that will ensure individual prosperity of all the people of our dear State", Ottun said.
The State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology (MOEST) Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu in his goodwill message said the state education sector would begging to experience a lot of change ranging from infrastructural development in higher institutions, secondary schools and primary schools across the state, adding that education in Ogun state would be a reference point in the Country.
He said he was looking at partnering and bringing Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) on board for the development of the state education sector, urging stakeholders in the education sector to work hand in hand with him in other to achieve a desired and result oriented sector.
" We are going to identify the problems, solve the problems and look back if the problems has been solve together, so if you work hand in hand with me we shall all see a new Ogun State education sector achieving a desire and result oriented sector" Arigbabu said
In their separate goodwill messages, the Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mr. Johnson Odeyemi, his counterpart from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, as well as the Principal General, Egba Division, Alhaja Sekinat Ogunwolu and the Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Olalekan Kuye lauded ANCOPSS for putting up the training at the time the world is adapting with the new normal after the COVID-19 pandemic.
They urged the principals to further put their wealth of experience and expertise to bear, in achieving the government's policies and programmes for a functional educational system in the State.
Earlier in her address, the President, ANCOPSS, State Branch, Dr. (Mrs.) Ayodele Womiloju said the essence of the training was to ensure that all the Principals in the 518 public secondary schools in the State were fully equipped with the required global standard skills.
She charged the selected participants to maximise the gains of the retreat and ensure effective replication of the training, at all zonal levels of ANCOPSS as it is a train the trainers' retreat.
Highlight of the opening ceremony was the decoration of the Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun, the Special Adviser on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, Permanent Secretaries from TESCOM, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Johnson Odeyemi, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, and Mr. Dahunsi Ogunleye, as well as the four newly sworn- in Principals-, among others, as ANCOPSS Ambassadors in the State.
