Ogun State Government has called for more public-private participation in education as government alone cannot do it all, particularly with it being a very important part of the growth and development of every given society.
The State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele who gave the call at the handing over of a block of three classrooms, toilet facilities, borehole with an overhead tank, at Premier Grammar School, Lafenwa, Abeokuta, by Build A School Initiative in Africa, (BASIA), said the present administration holds in high esteem the development of education sector.
According to her, “Youth empowerment is sacrosanct and somewhat closely related to education both of which we are passionate about. In recent times it has also formed the basis for agitations across the country, which has reinforced our government’s commitment to both sectors in the developmental drive across the State”.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele expressed delight over the contributions of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), such as BASIA is keying into the ’Building our Future Together’ agenda of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration, by supporting to improve lives of the people of the State with their generous donations.
She noted that the donations would go a long way in providing a conducive learning environment for learners and encourage other well-meaning individuals, NGOs and stakeholders in the sector, to emulate BASIA to help the State gain its prominence in the comity of States in Nigeria.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, reiterated that the present administration operates an open door policy which welcomes individuals, groups and corporate bodies with a willing heart to partner the State, towards improving the standard of education and educational infrastructure in the State.
In his address, President and Chief Executive Officer, (CEO), Build A School Initiative In Africa (BASIA), Dr. Victor Ukorebi said his organisation recognised with gratitude the priority placed on education by the present administration in the state led by Prince Dapo Abiodun, emphasising that the battle against illiteracy and lack of basic formal education is real.
In his welcome address, the principal, Senior School, Premier Grammar School Lafenwa, Mr. Waheed Salami, appreciated the State government for creating an enabling environment for corporate organisations in their support for education, while calling on well-meaning individuals and groups to emulate the kind gesture of the donor.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the Senior girl of the school, miss Adeola Balogun, commended the donor and the State government's efforts in transforming the state education sector.
