Traditional festival cancellation leads to fracas in Ekiti

Irate youth attacked the palace of Onire of Ire Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Bobade Adeleke on Monday, after the monarch cancelled the annual Ogun festival.


Salient Times report that the onire of Ire-Ekiti, Oba Victor Adeleke Bobade via a press release cancelled the 2020 Ogun Onire festival due to COVID-19 after consultation with chiefs.


The cancellation was due to the health risk of having mammoth crowd gather from all corners for the annual festival.

Irate youths didn’t seem pleased with the cancellation leading to setting ablaze the traditional ruler’s vehicle.

Salient Times gathered that three people were killed during the fracas, while several others were wounded.
