I pray to see Nigeria reward hard work on merit –Nigerian-born Canadian Minister

The Nigerian-born Canadian Minister and lawyer, Kaycee Madu, who was recently appointed minister of justice and solicitor-general of Alberta in Canada, has said that he looks forward to the day Nigeria will become a place where hard work and merit are rewarded.

Madu said this on his twitter handle on Sunday, August 30.

The Nigerian-born Canadian Minister is the first black man to occupy a ministerial post at that level in Canadian history.

Alberta’s premier described the appointment as making a powerful statement at a time of increasing sensitivity to racial prejudice.

He tweeted, ”Thank you for all the support and prayers coming from Nigeria and Nigerians in the Diaspora.

”I look forward to the day when Nigeria and Africa become places where hard work and merit are rewarded. Chukwu Gozie!”

Also, Salient Times reports that in an interview with the BBC world service, Madu said, “I’ve always said my story could only have been possible in my province of Alberta…

”I love my home country, Nigeria, but there is no question that I look forward to a day when my fellow countrymen and women in that country can achieve their God-given potential, regardless of the part of the country they come from and regardless of who their parents are.”

Madu’s appointment attracted a lot of reactions from Nigerians.

President Muhammad Buhari has described the appointment of Nigerian-born Kaycee Madu as another pointer to the fact that Nigerians are go-getters who have distinguished themselves in different walks of life.

Atiku Abubakar had last year congratulated Madu who was appointed Canadian minister for municipal affairs.

Atiku said seeing Nigerians prosper locally and around the world has always been the cornerstone of his vision, called the Atiku Plan.
