Officers in the Administrative Cadre of Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) have been charged to be security conscious and guide official documents in their possession.
The Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Mojisola Dosunmu gave the charge at a day in-house training, with the theme, "Documents and Office Security Management, Understanding Covid-19 in the Workplace", held at the Commissions' Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Represented by the Director of Information, TESCOM, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, Mrs. Dosunmu said the training was aimed at enhancing the capability of the administrative officers on the best approach in handling highly sensitive official documents, to prevent unauthorised access.
"Governor Dapo Abiodun graciously approved the training for Administrative Cadre in the Commission, having understood the need for the State workforce to be more conscious with documents in their care and observe all Covid-19 guidelines while on official duties", Dosunmu said.
Speaking on "Documents and Office Security Management", the Director, Management Services and Zonal Administration, Mrs. Idowu Kehinde said, administrative officers must guard against leakages of official documents and avoid discussing sensitive official matters with their spouses or relatives.
“Every officer is subject to the Official Secret Act, (Cap.335) and is prohibited in disclosing to any person, except in accordance to official routine or with the special permission of government, any article, note, document or information entrusted to him in confidence by any person holding office under the government in Ogun State of Nigeria, or which have been obtained in the cause of official duties.
‘’Similarly, every officer shall exercise due care and diligence to prevent the knowledge of any such article, notes, document or information being communicated to any person against the interest of the government", Kehinde said.
She noted that, ‘’leaking official information could attract serious sanction depending on the magnitude and sensitivity of such information’’, adding that the Public Service Regulation 04411 stated that, ‘’any officer found to be liable could be given a summary dismissal, demotion in rank or grade level’’.
In his presentation, the Director, Hospital Services, Ministry of Health, Dr. Solomon Sokunbi, said officers, irrespective of their level, must observe all the Covid-19 guidelines laid down by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) while carrying out official duties, to keep the work environment safe for government activities.
Sokunbi, represented by Dr. Samod Sodehinde, enumerated the precautions needed to include using of face masks, regular washing of hands, creating social distance, as well as making sure that all offices were well ventilated, adding that it was safer to put off air-conditioners and open windows in crowded spaces to further keep the virus away.
While urging the State Government to encourage other Ministries, Department and Agencies to undergo such trainings, Sokunbi said Covid-19 symptoms was similar to Malaria, advising all participants to report symptoms such as; sore throat, dry cough, high temperature among other related malaria symptoms to the nearest health facilities or visit the Ministry of Health for quick intervention.
