Ogun Residents send S.O.S to Abiodun , Police over incessant attack from suspected landgrabbers

Residents and landlords of Makogi town in Obafemi - Owode local government area of Ogun state have appealed to the state government to rescue them from what they termed as "incessant harassment and intimidation" of a suspected landgrabber who has been parading himself as the traditional ruler of the town.


The distressed Makogi Community landlords alleged that the landgrabber, identifies as one Chief Babatunde Sonola has been using thugs to harass and intimidate them and demanding that they must approach his palace to ratify documents for a repurchase of the land where they built their houses.

The community also urged the state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson to come to their help and stop him Sonola from creating more havocs in the community which could lead to the breakdown of laws and orders in the area.

The General Secretary of Makogi community, Taiwo Adewusi who addressed journalists yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital said the entire community had been pushed to the wall by Chief Sonola's act of wickedness which is nearing rendering some of the landlords homeless.

Adewuyi further alleged that Sonola has over the time, been disturbing the entire Makogi community by confiscating their landed property of other landlords who would not accord him respect as the monarch of the town.

The general secretary explained that Sonola, who was one of the 75 coronet obas ordained by the immediate past administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has refused to abide by the directives of the state government, ordering him to stop parading himself as an oba.

Adewuyi hinted that the state's Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs had via a letter dated 16th March, 2020, issued and signed by the Director of Chieftaincy Matters, Soji Adewuyi, directed Sonola to stop parading himself as an oba, but refused to abide by the directive.

The general secretary however, said that the entire landlords and residents of Makogi would appreciate every steps which the state government can take to force Sonaola to abide by the directives ordering him to stop parading himself as the Olu of Makogi
