Fresh Crisis Hits Osun PDP Over Suspension Of State Chairman

Fresh crisis may have engulfed the Osun State Chapter of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) over the Chairman of the party, Honourable Soji Adagunodo by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

The National Working Committee of the party had on Thursday asked Adagunodo to step aside as the party helmsman in the state and directed the Vice Chairman to take charge of the affairs of the party pending when full investigation of allegation of maladministration, anti-party activities among others levelled against him are determined by the party’s disciplinary committee.

The suspension letter issued on Adagunodo was signed by Senator Usman Tsauri, the National Secretary of the party.

Adagunodo had been swimming in trouble water when his purported suspension was hatched far away in Dubai late last year by some chieftains of the party especially those loyal to Adeleke’s dynasty during the wedding of Adewale, son of Dr. Deji Adeleke.

Even, the stakeholders meeting of the party was disrupted by some aggrieved members at the party secretariat during which some chieftains of the party sustained injuries. The aggrieved members during the meeting were chanting Adagunodo must go songs.

The removal of Adagunodo might not be unconnected with attempt to control the soul of the party ahead of the 2022 governorship election in the state.

Adagunodo missed it when he was accused of disloyalty to the course of Senator Ademola Adeleke during the 2018 governorship election in the state.

All efforts to save Adagunodo by former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola who had just returned into the party early this year and some chieftains of the party failed.

Consequently, Adagunodo suspension has polarised the party in the state with Adeleke dynasty apparently behind the plot while Oyinlola and others were against it.

This is even as Oyinlola’s return to the PDP have unsettled the Adeleke group as he, (Oyinlola) will authomatically become the leader of the party in the state.

The Adeleke group, according to sources, believed that Senator Ademola Adeleke might not be given the 2022 governorship ticket of the party with Oyinlola as leader of the PDP.

Reliably source told Independent that Uche Secondus, National Chairman of PDP has been compromised by the Adeleke group and have assented to the ‘Adagunodo Must Go’ plot.

Sources in the Adeleke group revealed that faith of some PDP chieftains was tied to the Adagunodo’s removal, stating that they were into the ‘Adagunodo Must Go’ struggle for survival.

According to the sources, Dr Deji Adeleke has threatened not to fund the PDP in the state if Adagunodo still remains the chairman of the party.

However, four persons have been pencilled down as possible replacement of Adagunodo. They are Kayode Oduoye, a House of Representatives Aspirant in Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency, Reverend Bunmi Jenyo, Dr. Bayo Faforiji and Ibukun Fadipe.
