In order to cushion the effects of the lockdown as a result of coronavirus pandemic on its people, indigenes of Ewekoro in Diaspora have donated food items worth millions of naira to vulnerable households and individuals in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Ewekoro indigenes acting under the aegis of Ewekoro Tink Tank(ETT) in conjunction with sister body at home - Ewekoro Progressive Forum(EPF), shared out rice, beans, gari, and Semovita parked inside a branded ETT/EPF bag to hundreds of beneficiaries cutting across the 10 wards - Wasimi, Owowo, Obada Oko, Mosan, Papalanto, Asa-Yobo, Abalabi, Arigbajo, Itori and Elere, of the Local Government.
The distribution of the palliatives saw the elderly, widows, widowers, single mothers, single fathers and others with no or weak means of sustainability, smiling home each with a pack of food items worth over N,5000 at the weekend.
The succour - giving crew also visited the Palace of the Olu of Itori, Oba Fatai Akamo, to intimate him of their modest contribution being undertaken by them towards lessening the burden of the lockdown on the people.
In return, they received royal blessings from their monarch, Oba Akamo, for their kind gestures to the needy at this trying period.
The Head of both the ETT and the charity initiative, Mr Babatunde Kayode, a United Kingdom - based geologist, who commended the beneficiaries for their orderly conduct, said the Ewekoro indigenous in diaspora in conjunction with the Ewekoro Progressive Forum decided to extend their helping hands to the vulnerable people at home.
Mr Babatunde said they resolved to reach out to people who needed the food items most with special consideration to people who fall within 55 years and above.
