Rotary Distributes Paliative Intervention Items on Covid19 for people in Ogun State.

As part of its Commitment to Selfless Service and execution of it's Core Social Responsibilities to communities within its Club location, Rotary International under the umbrella of Nigeria National Polio Plus Committee (NNPPC) for Covid 19 organised Relief Packages in form of Palliatives interventions for Communities located within Abeokuta, Ogun State in order to cushion the economic effects of the Stay at Home policy of the Government aimed at reducing the Spread of the Global Pandemic Corona Virus. 

The Ogun State Coordinator of the NNPPC Covid 19 Palliative Project Past Assistant Governor, Rotarian (Dr) Hassan Adelakun assisted by the Assistant Governor of  District (9110) Rotarian (Prof.) Akin Akinlabi and Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs Rotarian (Hon.) Adijat Adeleye led other Team of United Club Presidents from Abeokuta, Abeokuta Metro, Oke-Ona Egba, Obantoko and Elega to various Communities point of distributions of the Palliatives.

All the five Rotary Clubs in Abeokuta City were involved in the distribution of the above stated items to the indigents in Abeokuta and its environ which includes the Aged, widows, physically challenged and the Vulnerables.


The distribution took place between Wednesday and Thursday  6-7th, May 2020. While distributed palliative package included Beans, Garri, Noodles, Beverages and Sugar.The items were distributed free of Charge.

Rotarians were captured adorned in End Polio Now, T-shirts  as they moved from one community to the other in and around Abeokuta distributing the palliatives package and givin pep talks on the need to stay safe in order to defeat Coronavirus, prevent the infection of the Polio Virus and  the pandemic Covid-19. 


The clubs involved in this palliatives distributions  are:Rotary club of Abeokuta, Abeokuta Metro, Oke-Ona Egba , Elega and Rotary Club of Obantoko. While the distributions were done by each of these Clubs  led by their United Club Presidents and some of their league of Past Presidents to the identified needy in different communities within and around Abeokuta. 


Among the various points of Distributions where beneficiaries surged out in their hundreds were Abeokuta Club, Akinlae town and Olokemeji Community, St Annes Primary School, Ibukun Oluwa CDA Camp, CDA Aregbe Akingbala Elega and Bode Olude axis were among the Communities visited.

Rotary has been involved in polio eradication since 1985 and over 2.5billion children have been immunized and over 2billion dollar spent so far. Hopefully, Nigeria will be certified polio free later this year- thanks to NNPPC,  thanks to the Rotarians and Rotary partners. 

Rotary is an organisation of professionals, who, as volunteers, are committed to the service of humanity, and, therefore, would be able to use their knowledge of needs assessment, project siting, project monitoring and closeness to the communities for their benefits.

All over the world Rotary Clubs serve communities around the world, each with unique concerns and needs. Rotarians have continually adapted and improved the way they respond to those needs in Countless ways and NNPPC project is one of the ways and means Rotary clubs employ in addressing economic and community needs locally and internationally
