Boris Johnson and fiancée Carrie Symonds have announced the name of their son.
In a post on Instagram, the new mum is seen holding three-day-old Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson.
The PM’s spokesperson said: “The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning.
The newborn’s name pays tribute to their grandfathers and the NHS doctors who saved the UK PM’s life when as he battled COVID-19 in intensive care recently.
“Nicholas after Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart – the two doctors that saved the prime minister’s life last month.
"Ms Symonds then went on to thank the NHS team in the maternity unit in the post, revealing the bub was born at University College Hospital in London at 9am on Wednesday.
“Wilfred after Boris’ grandfather, Lawrie after my grandfather,” the 32-year-old explained in the caption.
The news of Wilfred’s arrival came just a day after the Prime Minister returned to work following his battle with COVID-19, which left him in intensive care for three nights.
Newborn Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson was premature, with the original due date not expected to be until late May or the beginning of June, according to reports.
Mr Johnson returned to work and Downing Street hours after the birth but the Prime Minister’s office said he will take paternity leave later in the year.
In February, Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds announced they had gotten engaged in December and were expecting a child together in the UK summer.
The former Mayor of London has been married twice before and has four children with his second wife, Marina Wheeler.
Mr Johnson also allegedly fathered a daughter during an extramarital affair with art consultant Helen Macintyre in 2009, while still Mayor of London, according to court documents in 2013 referenced by The Guardian.
However, he has never publicly commented on this.
