The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ogun State Chapter, Comrade. Emmanuel Bankole has charged the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to take cognisance of overdue deductions of the State workforce and not take after his predecessor.
Bankole gave the charged at the celebration of Year 2020 and the 16th Annual General Meeting of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions ( NASU) Schools & Colleges Branch, Ogun State chapter day, held at the Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba in Abeokuta.
Appreciating the Governor for the approval for the 30,500 of the new minimum wage, which payment would commenced by March ending, Comrade Bankole also appealed to the Governor to address the contributing pension, gratuity of pensioners, approval for 2018/2019 promotion exercise and part payment out of the overdue five months deductions of the State workers.
The Ogun State Head of Service, Tpl. Amope Choko, who was represented by Mr. Zachaeus Adeyemi commended the matured attitude displayed by the leadership of Ogun NLC leadership during negotiations of the new minimum wage, adding that the recent appointment of more than 2,000 staff into the mainstream and payment of nine months salary by the governor should be applauded.
She however urged Civil Servants to shun the act of wastage by blocking every linkages in the state treasury, assuring that the NLC and NASU plight would be given attention.
Speaking the NASU General Secretary and NLC Deputy President, Comrade Peters Adeniyi, represented by the National Senior Deputy General Secretary of NASU, Comrade. Alhasan Mohammed commended the State Government for making the welfare of both teaching and none teaching staff in the educational sector a priority, saying that the Ogun State Chapter of NASU has been found to be the best in the Country with regards to welfarism of its members.
In their separate goodwill message, the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Secondary and Technical Education, Hon. Sidi Osho and Mrs Ronke Soyombo respectively, said members should work hard to justify the huge investment of government on education, assuring that the welfare of the workforce would continue to be the priority of the present administration led by Prince Dapo Abiodun.
They both opined that the role of NASU in adding value to the education sector cannot be overemphasized, saying that the State Government appreciates NASU input to the system with the knowledge of shaping the lives of the future leaders of the State.
Assuring that NLC, NASU members that their request would be table before the Governor, Prof. Osho and Soyombo said the State government in few weeks would employ 1,500 teachers in the Primary Schools across the State, 1,600 also to be employed by Teaching Service Commission(TESCOM) to enhance and boost qualitative service delivery in the Secondary Schools, adding that government was interested at improving on both teaching and none teaching welfare package as plans were underway for 2018/2019 promotion exercise.
Earlier in her welcome address, the NASU Chairperson, Mrs Christianah Emmanuel commended the efforts of the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for managing the affairs of the state with maturity, stressing that the 2016/2017 promotion letters released by the governor was a major booster to their members.
She pledged the continued support and loyalty of its members in sustaining the building our future together mantra, insisting that all hand are already on deck to take the state to enviable height in the country.
