Man With Biggest Fish At 2020 Argungu Fishing Festival Gets ₦10m, 2 Cars And Two Hajj Seats

Man who caught the biggest fish at the 2020 Argungu fishing festival, Malam Abubakar Ya’u, gets ₦10 million, two new cars and two Hajj seats.


Malam Abubakar Ya’u, on Saturday, won himself a total of ₦10 million, two new cars and two Hajj seats for catching the biggest fish at the 2020 Argungu fishing festival in Kebbi state.

Abubakar’s catch, which weighs a massive 78 kilogramme, was adjudged the best among the fishes caught by more than 50,000 participants at the annual event.

Malam Bala Yahaya-Bagaye clinched the second position with his fish that weighed 75 kilogramme. Malam Maiwake Sani came third with a catch that weighs 70 kilogramme.



Below is a breakdown of prices which the winners will be going home with

The Chairman, Northern Governors Forum, Gov. Simon Lalong, donated ₦3 million to the first position, ₦2 million to the second position, while ₦1 million went to the fisherman that clinched the third position.

Executive Secretarfy, Nigeria Shippers Council, Dr Hassan Bello, also presented ₦1 million to the first position, ₦750,000 to the second position, and ₦500,000 to the third.

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal donated ₦3 million; ₦2 million; and ₦1 million to the first, second and third positions respectively. A Hajj seat also goes to the third position.

West African Cotton Company Limited donated a new car, ₦1 million and Hajj seat to first position.

Wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Zainab Bagudu, also donated a brand new car to the first position.

Maltina Nigeria Limited donated a tricycle, KEKE NAPEP, and a motorcycles for the second and third prize winners respectively.

The fishing competitions is not the only event taking place at the annual four-day fishing festival.

Other competing events includes water relays, swiming on gourd, diving competition and Motor Rally .
