Against the backdrop of curtailing the possible spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Kano state government has ordered the closure of all routes leading into the state from other parts of the country from March 27 by 12 midnight.
This is contained in a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Abba Anwar, stating that all kinds of movement coming in and out of the state have been banned by the state government.
“All kinds of movement through the borders of the state, even those coming to Kano through the domestic wing of the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano will remain at the airport, without getting entrance into the city,” the statement disclosed.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje reiterated that “this decision is hard, but absolutely necessary as part of precautionary measures against the deadly COVID-19 possible spread.
We urge Kano citizens and all other Nigerians to bear with this difficult situation.
“People must cooperate with health workers and all other stakeholders to make sure that our state and the country in general is safe.”
According to Gov. Ganduje, social distancing as advised by health workers and the need to stay at home by all is an important aspect of the precautionary measures that should always be observed.
He added that hand washing with soap and running water or cleaning with sanitizer should always be observed by people, emphasising that, “all what the health the workers are doing is for the benefit of all, to have an improved healthy society with a healthy population
The governor reminded civil servants who were ordered to stay off from their offices, explained that they were directed to stay at home for their safety and that of the society at large.
“All members of the public should stay away from going to the markets, unless for essential needs.
While borders would remain shut, the state would continue studying the situation and keep people abreast of any new development.
“We are therefore, calling on people to keep on praying and make sure that they always abide by all the medical advice given by health workers,” he urged.
The governor stated that the police, Kano Roads Transport Authority (KAROTA) and the state Hisbah board among others, would see to the enforcement of the ban and called on the public to cooperate with security agents.
