A concerned Nigerian citizen, Kolawole Ayinde Adejumo has advised religious faithfuls, especially Christians to draw closer to God during the global lockdown and curfew within Oyo state arising from the Corona Virus pandemic outbreak.
Adejumo during his sermon at an interdenominational Christian gathering in his Iwo Road Ibadan residence on Sunday, March 29, made this plea, emphasizing the need to have a personal relationship with God as the way to sustained peace and victory in these troubled times.
The service which was monitored by the management of Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT)was informed by a directive that few believers of less than 10 in each praying centres of the church should intercede for Nigerians and the world on the global problem.
Adejumo admonished believers to sustain the practice of genuine faith in God asserting that although many sought God as a result of the prevailing pandemic-inspired panic, they had ulterior motives adding that faith in God and compliance with medical guidelines were enough for their safety.
The 26-year-old graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile -Ife revealed that many people were only waiting for God to solve the problem at hand, only to go about their daily pursuits, excluding God from their lives after the crisis might have passed adding that such would not give them holistic solution to their live problems.
He boldly asserted that those who sought better intimacy with God would experience divine safety, as he God would protect them from all evil, both the virus and other ordeals as well as their eternity in heaven.
He pointed out that both the disease and the popular response of unfaithful citizens were signs of the coming of Jesus Christ, imploring citizens to repent of their misdeeds and nonchalant attitude toward God because no one could say exactly when the trumpet shall sound.
The young preacher thereafter led his congregation in observance of the Holy Communion as a means of protection likened to the biblical practice of Passover, with prayers and prophetic declarations following.
The social impact of the deadly disease is obvious, with most religious and social groups forced to comply with the social measures put in place by the Oyo state government.
Public gatherings have been regulated as no more than 10 persons are to publicly appear anywhere within the state, and must obey the 7pm to 6am curfew
Meanwhile, many Churches have declared a week fasting and prayer to God for his intervention on the problem and there was compliance to the guidelines by medical experts as well as non violation of security guidelines in Oyo state .
