The present administration in Ogun State has restated its commitment to effective service delivery, assuring that due processes would be strictly adhered in promotions and appointments in the State’s Civil Service.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, stated this in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, during the swearing-in of Mr. Olawale Alao, as the first Statistician-General in the State, pointing out that the appointee was qualified for the post, having demonstrated professionalism in the discharge of his duty as a Statistician over the years.
"We will continue to appreciate, recognize and reward merit and adhere strictly to our principles of fairness and equity. We will ensure that promotions and appointments are merit based and the processes not haphazardly done.
"You deserve this appointment. Until today, we have not met eye to eye. I want to put on record that you have not been given this appointment because you came to see me at night, in the morning or in my office. I have appointed you because of your antecedents and professionalism", Prince Abiodun explained.
While congratulating Mr. Alao for being the first Statistician-General of the State, the Governor urged him to carry out his duties without fear and be fair to all, in accordance with the administration's good governance principles.
Speaking with the Press Officer, Ministry of Finance, Mrs Folake Ade-Adeniji after the swearing-in, the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo described the new Statistician-General as a loyal and dedicated officer, who has contributed immensely in providing statistical data and information on the State’s economy.
“Data is very important as part of our reforms and initiatives, having a properly instituted Bureau of Statistics is also important, it’s actually funny that we have not had properly instituted Bureau of Statistics in the past. We are commencing digital transformation initiatives for which data and information is critical, if we don’t have data, it’s very difficult for government to plan and operate”, Okubadejo said”.
While appreciating Governor Abiodun for the gesture, Mr. Alao described his appointment as a blessing and parting gift which he never thought of, promising to continue to contribute his quota towards taking the State to greater heights.
Mr. Alao, a native of Abeokuta, was born on February 27, 1960. He had his elementary education at Trinity Primary School, Ijaye, his secondary education at Revd. Kuti Memorial Grammar School and Egba High School, Asero, while he bagged a Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Statistics from the University of Ibadan.
A member of many professional bodies, including the Nigeria Statistics Association, the new appointee joined the State’s Civil Service in 1989, as a Statistician Grade 11 and rose through the ranks before his new appointment.
