Fire razes Onijaye Palace, four others as Abiodun visits victims

Not less than four buildings including the palace of Onijaye Obiriti Gbagura in Abeokuta north local government were over the weekend completely razed by inferno following the fallen tanker loaded with fuel which caught fire at Alamala area of Abeokuta.

Also affected were shops and other properties located within the area.

 The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who visited the victims of fire incident at the Federal Medical Center Idi Aba, Abeokuta as well as the old Palace of Oba Nofiu Adeyemi, Onijaiye of Ijaiye Obiriti Gbagura said government is not happy with the unfortunate incident.



Speaking, the  Governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner  for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL. Olatunji Odunlami, said the officials of the Ministry would be back on Monday to take the inventory of the affected properties, adding that the Governor was very shocked when the news of the incident got to him.

The Commissioner also visited the fire victims at the Federal Medical Centre,  thanking God that no life was lost during the incident as those hospitalised were recovering very fast.


He said he will also discussed with the Governor on the extent of damage and see how the government would render some assistance to the victims, most especially those hospitalised. 


Oba Nofiu Adeyemi, Onijaiye of Ijaiye Obiriti Gbagura, appreciated the Governor for the timely visit to the affect victims, and appealed to the Governor to assist the affected persons, adding that properties that worth millions of naira were destroyed.

The incident occured while a distress fuel lading tanker had a flat tire and tries to negotiate  towards Alamala Barrack after which the tank fell and caught fire.
