Popular Honourable escapes assassination in Ogun

The spate of political violence in Abeokuta, Ogun State was heightened on Sunday 10th, Nov. 2019 as unknown gunmen stormed the house of the aspirant of All Progressive Congress of Abeokuta South local government area, Hon. Sola Ekundayo shooting sporadically at his residence located at 3, Hon. Sola Ekundayo drive, behind Fajol Estate, Obantoko area of Abeokuta.

It was learnt that, the aspirant who is the former Political aide to the immediate past Governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun is also an aspirant in the forthcoming Local Government election in the state.

Our reporter gathered that the gunmen which their number cannot be ascertain broke into the front door and the window to his private residence, searching for him but couldn't be found.

They shot sporadically on air and started shouting "Where is he, where is the stubborn man who wants to be Local Government Chairman", and after about 20minutes of searching, they left after destroying his properties.

"The masked efftty looking men could have possibly killed him if he was found but none of his neighbours could come out due to the heavy gun shots", one of the neighbours said.

A resident, speaking to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said some armed gang invaded the house and that he could hear the gang members threatening to kill him if he proceeds with his Chairmanship ambition and non of the neighbours could come out during the attack until they have left due to heavy gun shots.

"It was something around 11:25pm, I was on my bed about to sleep when I started hearing some people shouting, 'where is he, you won't make it'. I was very afraid and was even shivering where I was.

"I have never witnessed such incident before in my life. I guess its because of the allocation coming directly to the LG from the Federal Government that want this people to get to the sit by all means."

Asked if the matter has been reported at the police station, the source said, the Chairman of the Landlord association of the community reported the case to the police.

Efforts to get the state Police public relations officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi to comment on the incident proves abortive as his phone lines were not connecting as at the time of filling this report.

Attempts to also reach Hon. Sola Ekundayo on phone was also futile as his mobile lines were off and his whereabouts unknown.
