Following the order banning supply of petroleum products to border areas across the country, two members of Ogun State House of Assembly representing Idiroko/Ipokia and Egbado South state constituency Hon Latifat Ajayi, and Hon Sikirat Ajibola have advised the federal government to revisit the decision.
The two lawmakers gave the advice while speaking on the implications of the directive during the plenary in Abeokuta .
Hon. Ajayi Latifat urged the federal government to reconsider the ban of supply of petroleum products within the radius of 20 kilometers to border areas.
She also called on government to check mate the overzealousness of security agencies in the border areas who on daily harass innocent farmers who go about doing their legitimate businesses.
She added that the policy of petroleum not getting to border areas has been on for a long time and issues of border closure has become a serious issues in Nigeria. As many necessary imported goods can not be avoided by the common man.
Also speaking, Hon. Sikirat Ajibola said the issues of 20 kilometers of restriction of petroleum to the border areas has become a serious issue and it is affecting many businesess, homes and school children in her constituency.
She lamented that 20 kilometers to the border area along Sango, Owode/Idiroko road end at Ajilete in Yewa South Local Government, simply means that the whole of Ipokia Local Government have been part of in the affected.
Ajibola, lamented that the entire local government has not benefitted any dividend of democracy, yet the policy of petroleum restrictions is adding more to their plight.
"The kind of hardships our people go through daily in order to get fuel at Ilashe, Ajegunle and Idiroko has become unbearable for my people. It has affected schools pupils, business men, commercial activities and social lives.
"Also, there is no light to charge phones and power other electric gadgets, it is this same petrol that we are using to power everything. Federal and state government of Nigeria should come to our rescue as life is becoming unbearable for us in the border areas".
