Robbers Kill Five, Injure Others In Onitsha

The security outfit relaunched last week by Anambra State Governor Chief Willie Obiano got its first taste at the weekend when robbers struck at the commercial city of Onitsha, killing five persons and injuring many others.

The robbers attacked a petrol station and pharmacy shop.

It was learnt that two females and three males were among the casualties in the attack at the filing station located near Borromeo round-about and the pharmacy shop along Awka road.

The robbers, numbering  six, were said to have driven into the petrol station at about 2.00am, after being allowed access by the attendants who mistook them for customers.

An eye witness said :”They shot dead one of the vigilante operatives on sight before gunning down a worker, who was woken up by the sound of barrage of gunshots.

“Another female sale’s attendant, who delayed when the masked pointer asked her for the key to the volt, was also killed,” he said.

Some commuters plying the area, including night travelers, reportedly jumped out of their vehicles and scampered for safety.

It was learnt that money realised from the day’s sales at the petrol station was carted away by the robbers through the aid of pointer indicating where they were kept.

When contacted the Police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed said, the police is still investigating the matter and will come out with their findings later
