The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has appealed to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to, as a matter of urgency, pay N5 million compensation to the family of late Opeyemi Odunsi who was accidentally knocked down to death last week by a Customs official.
The official was said to have been driving an alleged smuggled vehicle when the accident occurred at Ihunbo in Ipokia Local Council of Ogun State.National President of the association, Ogunrombi Gbemileke Emmanuel, who spoke at a press conference in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital yesterday, also asked the NCS to employ a member of the deceased family because of the loss as well as pay the hospital bills of three other persons who were injured during the incident.
Emmanuel said that he had already led students’ delegation to the crime scene and their investigation revealed that only one person was killed contrary to some media reports that they were three.He said: “That only one 20-year-old student died while three others sustained different degrees of injuries as against the rumour peddled around on the social media that three persons died.
“The above demands must be met on or before the next 14 days, else the national secretariat of NAOSS will be relocated to the Idiroko office of the Nigeria Customs Service in a massive protest, which will continue until the listed demands are met.”
