A group of suspected bandits numbering over 200 Thursday launched attack and killed nine soldiers in Sunke village of Anka local government area of Zamfara state.
Witness who pleaded anonymity in an interview with Journalists on phone said the gunmen arrived on motorcycles firing at the soldiers stationed at the community, adding that, a policeman was among the victims.
However, another sources closed to state government in a condition of anonymity told our reporter that the attack will not be unconnected with a vengeance taken by the bandits against the soldiers operating in the area who was alleged to have killed some of the repentant bandits recently.
Last Wednesday, residents spotted a motor bike – riding gang of armed men at Kwanar Mayanchi junction along Gusau – Sokoto highway who raided some shops and made away with food items belonging to shops owners worth millions of Naira and said they were heading to Birnin Gwari in the neighbouring Kaduna state.
It could be recalled that, the attacks on soldiers came barely two weeks after the state government raised alarm over possible attacks on seven local government areas by suspected Boko Haram members.
When contacted the spokesperson of Operation Hadarin Daji in the state, captain Oni Orisan by journalists demanded more times to get back but all effort made to get details from him proved abortive as at the time of sending the report.
However, the Anka Local Council Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Balarabe Anka in an interview on Phone, confirmed the incident, saying since the beginning of peace dialogue initiated by Zamfara state government, his local council was peaceful as people were sleeping with their two eyes closed.
“I can not precisely tell you exactly the level of Yesterday attack of my area but we are still holding a crucial meeting with all the relevant security operatives to ascertained the level of the incident, but I am assuring you that I will feed you the information later, and normalcy has been restored so far”. The Chairman stated.
