The Planter of Christ Apostolic Church, Adamimogo Outreach and Baba Orioke Aanu Erio Ekiti, Prophet Sam Olu Alo, has called for a law guiding governments at all levels against misappropriation of taxes deducted from Nigerians.
Alo said Nigerians always felt aggrieved each time taxes are jacked up because of the widespread impression that the monies would be looted by corrupt leaders .
Making copious allusion to the recent increase of the Value Added Tax (VAT) from 5 to 7.2% said people will not complain if roads, water, electricity, infrastructure and other social amenities are adequately provided and maintained in the country.
Speaking with newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Thursday , Prophet Alo who noted that taxes are being paid in all countries world and are relatively higher that what is obtainable in Nigeria said such laws if enacted will ensure that successive government at all levels put the tax payers' money to right use.
"People all over the world pay tax. In all the developed countries where I have been, the money generated by government from the tax is used effectively for the provision of infrastructure and social amenities.
"Though the increase is not much compare to other clime but if the reason why people pay taxes are seen and manifest, they will not complain but if there is nothing to show for it, they will definitely raise eyebrows.
"Those feeling the impacts tax payment are majorly poor. In the developed countries, they pay tax because the money is put to right use. So if the law is enacted here government would be made to do the needful with the tax money".
The man of God said the ministry will hold a programme to pray for the country with the theme: "Night of Vengeance" taking place at Dayland Event Centre, Ibadan on October 4, 2019.
Prophets Alo, Ade Ologbonyo, T. Asonibare, and Pastor Oyebola will minister in the word of God while Kenny Ologo Ara and Bois Olorun will minister in songs.
He urged Governor Kayode Fayemi to move round the state to identify and hear from the people about their challenges in order to find a lasting solution to them.
The cleric also advised the governor to use his position as the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors' Forum to work the Minister of Trade, Investment and Industry, Otunba Niyi Adebayo to industrialize and develop the state.
" There is the need for the governor and the Minister to work together and harness mineral resources that are abound in the state.
"Efforts must also be made towards reviving and revamping the Ire burn brick factory which he started during his first term and other moribund industries to provide jobs teeming unemployed youths and to shore up the the state internally generated revenues.
