A 22- year- old house wife, Harela Uba who is eight months pregnant has been arrested in Niger state for feeding her three -day old stepson with poison identified as “ota pia pia” .
The crime was said to have been committed on September 14, 2019 in Shakodna village in Shiroro local government of Niger state. It was reported to the police by the father of the deceased, Uba Saidu.
The pregnant woman who is the first wife of Uba Saidu reportedly gave her 7 –year- old daughter the poison to feed the baby while the mother of the baby, Fa’iza Uba wa taking her birth while she left the baby in her room.
However, when she returned from the bathroom, she was said to have discovered that white foam was pouring out of the baby’s mouth and the three- day old baby was rushed to the hospital but died before help could come.
Police public relations officer of the Niger state police command, DSP Mohammed Abubakar, confirmed the incident in Minna, Thursday, adding that the case was first reported at Shiroro Police Division by the father of the dead baby.
He said , “The police invited his first wife, one Harela Uba ‘f’ aged 22 years of the same address who is 8 months pregnant for questioning on reasonable suspicion, being the only one at home when the incident happened. Upon interrogation, she confessed to giving her 7 year-old daughter, one Khadija Uba ‘f’ a liquid substance suspected to be a insecticides alias ‘Ota Pia-Pia’ to administer to the child, which she did”.
He said the case would be charged to court after investigation has been completed.
In a related development, seven suspects and members of ‘Yan Kwamiti’ and Hisba Shariah commission of Kontagora local government of Niger state have been arrested by the policemen attached to ‘B’ Division, Kontagora for the gruesome murder of one Ibrahim A. Ibrahim.
The deceased was alleged to be responsible for the abduction of his girlfriend, one Maryam Salmanu of Unguwan Yamma in Konragora based on which he was arrested by the vigilante group and tortured to death.
Those arrested, according to DSP Mohammed Abubakar, Ahmadu Yahaya aged 35 years, Dahiru Abdullahi, Abdulrasheed Atabo, Yunusa Adamu Abubakar Usman, all of Anguwan Yamma area of Kontagora.
The suspects were said to have arrested three persons namely, Ibrahim A. Ibrahim, Musa Salahu and Ahmed Mohammed ‘m’ all of same address to their office to ‘investigate’ the alleged abduction.
