The challenge of insecurity has heightened in Bayelsa State with the murder of a former chairman of the state Butchers Association, Chibuzor Nwachukwu.
It was gathered that the 42-year-old Nwachukwu was killed by yet-to-be identified gunmen at the Ovom area of the state capital, Yenagoa, on Tuesday evening.
He was said to be returning home after close of business at Swali Market when his assailants ambushed him, shot him in the head and he died on the spot. It was learnt that the victim was killed near his residence.
The armed bandits reportedly went away with an undisclosed sum of money believed to be all his sales for the day.
The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Nwachukwu. The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Asinim Butswat, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident in a text message to our correspondent on Wednesday.
He said, “On 24th September 2019, at about 2000hours, unknown gunmen shot and killed one Chibuzor Nwachukwu, ‘m’, 42 years, at Ogilo Street, Yenagoa.
“The police has visited the scene of crime and investigation has commenced.”
