OGUN SUBEB TRAINS STAKEHOLDERS ON EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF SBMC-SIP*

The Executive Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Abdul-Jeleel Olatunde Okewole on Monday recognized the impact of the School Based Management Committee (SBMC) and community Self-Help Projects in promoting grassroots connectivity and developing basic education delivery at a cost effective manner.



Alhaji Okewole who was represented by Board Secretary of SUBEB, Mr. Wasiu Olalekan Kuye  while declaring open a 3-day School Based Management Committee –School Improvement Programme workshop tagged “Effective Implementation of SBMC-SIP in Ogun State” held at Baptist Church Children Multi-Purpose Hall, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, explained that SBMC-SIP aimed at promoting community participation in basic education. 

He added that the programme is designed to provide support towards the execution of community initiated Self-Help, Priority-Based projects in Public Primary Schools through SBMCs with a view to enhancing access, equity and quality basic education delivery in the State. Also noted that the initiative will serve as a tool for reducing the challenge of Out-of-school children in Nigeria.

In his remark, UBEC Consultant on SBMC-SIP stepdown training, Maikudi Muhammad Lawal praised Ogun SUBEB and most especially Department of Social Mobilization for its commitment towards advancement of basic education in the State. He implored other State to emulate Ogun State.

Also, former Director, Social Mobilization Oyo SUBEB who was one of facilitators at the workshop, Mrs Aderonke Ogunsina while delivering her goodwill message appreciated UBEC for the initiative and urged participant to pay rapt attention.

Meanwhile, the State Chairman, SBMC, Alhaji Juwon Labode appreciated Ogun SUBEB for organizing the workshop that will educate the SBMC Members on what is expected of them to do in their various schools and promised to make use of all being taught at the workshop.

Earlier, in her welcome address, Director, Social Mobilisation, Mrs Omotunde Egunjobi thanked UBEC, Ogun SUBEB, Co-facilitators for finding time to grace the occasion, she congratulated members of SBMC State Exco for their unflinching courage towards ensuring the success of SBMC-SIP programme in the State and urged the participants to be active and contribute their best towards ensuring its success.

At the event were Director, Academics and School Services, Mr. Sesi Adeboye, Director, Management Services Mr. Oluwatoyin Adeyemi, Deputy Director, Education Quality Assurance, Mrs Jokotade Agbatiogun and Head, Audit Unit, Alhaji Tajudeen Yusuff.

Others Include, State Coordinator, Civic Society Action Coalition on Education for ALL, Mrs Taiwo Adebanjo, State Chairman, Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Olatunji Balogun and some Acting Education Secretaries
