OGUN GOVT WORRIES ABOUT STATE OF EDUCATION AS DEPUTY GOVERNOR INSPECTS SCHOOLS

The Ogun State Government has expressed concerns  about the  deplorable ondition of schools in some parts of the State, noting that the challenges faced, such as structural integrity of buildings, where the children learn,  and other factors contributing to the bad state of the  schools, would be tackled with immediate effect. 

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. (Mrs ) Noimot Salako Oyedele addressing students of Rev. Kuti Memorial Grammer School, Isabo during an assessment tour to some schools that needs government attention in Abeokuta North Local Government Areas of Ogun State.

The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. (Mrs) Noimot Oyedele- Salako made this known during  a familiarization tour of some selected Primary and Secondary Schools in Abeokuta South and North Local Government Areas of the State.

Engr. Salako -Oyedele  who embarked on the tour on the directive of the Governor, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun  was  accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education,  Science  and Technology, Mr. Ola- Olu Aikulola  and other officials of the Ministry, said it was shocking to see children of different classes facing two sides in one  classroom.

" If you want to learn and excel ,there is need to reposition the educational sector to where it used to be.  Ogun State is where we breed excellence, hence,  the need to provide proper learning facilities, so we need to tackle these challenges with immediate effect" She lamented.

The Deputy Governor however said the Dapo Abiodun led administration would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that over bloated population, lack of toilet facilities and teaching aids would be a thing of the past.

She said that for a State that is blessed like Ogun, plans are underway to comnence construction of a befitting blocks of classrooms in all wards in Abeokuta North  Local Government during the upcoming holiday adding that other wards would be touched subsequently to ensure that children learn under conducive environment.

She further advised parents to begin to understand the value of education, saying it opens doors of opportunities everywhere, while encouraging them to take advantage of the facilities put in place by the government by allowing their wards to be in school on market days .

Salako- Oyedele also gave kudos to Parents Teachers Associations (PTAs) for coming together to supplement the meagre resources put in place by the government, while commending the teachers for their dedication and commitments despite the few tools available for teaching.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olu-Ola Aikulola said for the State to get to the milestone it desired, there is need to tackle infrastructural deficit and embarke on  training and re-training of teachers.

The schools visited are, Reverend Kuti Primary School, Nawarudeen Nursery and Primary school, both in Isabo ,  Government Technical and Vocational College , Oke - Ijeun , St.Peters College and Community Primary School both in  Olomore.
