FRSC Official Allegedly Strangled To Death By Colleagues

Tragedy struck at Onitsha office of the Federal Road Safety Commission  (FRSC) on Thursday night when a corps officer was allegedly strangled to death by two of his colleagues.

The deceased, identified by his colleagues as Emeka Ojei, a Senior Road Marshal Assistant, was reportedly strangled to death for allegedly attempting to expose certain corrupt practices against one of his assailants in the office.

It was gathered that the deceased had damaging allegations he intended to report at the Corps headquarters in Benin and refused to be dissuaded from doing so.

A staff of the Commission who spoke on condition of anonymity, said  Ojei’s refusal to drop the allegation infuriated the prime suspect.

According to him, the officer was struggling with Ojei over his mobile phone when another colleague joined and held him on the neck until he was strangled to death.

He words: “Emeka is one of the officers  working on a report on a corruption case to be sent to the headquarters in Benin.

“As he was about going to deliver the report, his boss called him back, insisting he shouldn’t go, but he refused.

“His boss dragged him with his phone while another officer joined him. He was struggling with them over the phone when they strangled him to death.”

It was learnt that the case had been lodged at the Police Area command, while the Unit Commander and his accomplice had been arrested.

The FRSC Public Relations Officer in the state, Pascal Anigbo, confirmed the incident but could not give details.

He said :”The incident happened around 7pm in the office but I don’t have the full details of the incident now”.

The Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura, in his reaction said he was just coming back from a trip and was yet to be briefed on the matter and promised to get back as soon as he gets the details from the Area commander.
