Police confirms arrest of Man caught with gun during Ogun gov’s inauguration

The police in Ogun State said it has taken a 31-year-old man, Oluwaseun Fakoyejo, into custody for unlawful possession of arm and ammunition.

The command said Fakoyejo was caught with a gun and four live cartridges on Wednesday at the main bowl of M.K.O. Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, where the inauguration of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, was held.

It was learnt that the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad deployed in the venue got a tip-off that some hoodlums were fomenting trouble at the venue.

The men reportedly swung into action and apprehended Fakojeyo while his accomplices allegedly took to their heels.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, stated that the command had commenced investigation.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, had ordered that the fleeing suspects should be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

He said, “A 31-yr-old man, Oluwaseun Fakoyejo, was on Wednesday arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command at the main bowl of M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, the venue of the inauguration of the Ogun State Governor, Dr Dapo Abiodun.

“The arrest of the suspect followed an intelligence report at the disposal of the command that some hoodlums would be at the stadium purposely to foment trouble, which made the police to be more vigilant during the ceremony.

“Not quite long after the departure of the governor and some other dignitaries, the SARS operatives deployed in the venue got information about the hoodlums fomenting trouble and threatening people with dangerous weapons.

“The operatives swiftly moved in and succeeded in arresting one of the miscreants while others escaped. One locally-made single-barrelled pistol and four live cartridges were recovered from the suspect.”
