Oyo governor says his minimum wage will surpass FG's approved N30,000

The new governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde on Thursday assured civil servants in the state that he will pay more than Federal Government’s approved N30,000.

Makinde stated this at an inter-religious prayer organized to ushered in the new administration in the state at the state Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

The new governor added that he belief in true federalism, saying “Oyo State will be the first state in Nigeria to pay above the new minimum wage subject to the income of the state.

“Payment of workers will top our priority in the state, no worker will be witch hunt or circumvent because our intention is to move quick so that people of Oyo State can move forward.”

“There will be training and retraining of workers, Oyo workers will not only be trained locally, but they will also be trained internationally.”

Makinde also said that people should hold him accountable for any decision he takes in the state, adding that progress and prosperity of the state is not negotiable.

According to the governor, his administration will serve the people, for them to enjoy the dividends of democracy, noting that while the people will hold him accountable for his decisions, he will also hold the people accountable as a partner to move Oyo State forward.

Earlier in her remark, the Head of Service of Oyo State, Alhaja Amidat Ololade Agboola said that the new administration marks a new beginning and the role for a purposeful government.

She said that the new government would create a working and enabling environment for workers in the state to be able to discharge their duties effectively.

She however lamented that shortage of fund and workforce in Oyo State civil service has been affecting and crippling the effective performance of the workers which posed a great danger to the survival of the service.

Dignitraries at the event include the deputy governor of Oyo State, Eng Rauf Olaniyan, the chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice Muktar Abimbola, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assemby, Rt Hon. Joshua Olagunju Ojo, Chief of staff to the Oyo State governor, Chief Bisi Ilaka, and Senator Kola Balogun among others.
