Nation without preference for truthfulness, accountability, cannot attain its potentials says Islamic Cleric

Leaders in Nigeria have been advised to always be truthful and transparent in running the affairs of the country.

The Chief Missioner, Taosaf Islamic Foundation Worldwide, Sheikh Mustapha Taoheed Adeshina made this call on Sunday  during the 2nd Ramadan public lecture of the foundation in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Adeshina said Nigeria can only return to greatness if her leaders are trustworthy and honest in managing the treasury of the country.

The Muslim cleric noted that, Nigerians were wallowing in abject poverty because the leaders are not truthful with the resources at their disposal.

He emphasized that a nation without preference for truthfulness, accountability, justice cannot attain its potentials of reaching for greatness.

Sheikh Adeshina therefore took a swipe at Senate President, Bukola Saraki and erstwhile Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen for failing to declare their assets.

He however blamed the evasive corruption in the presidency on disregard for the judicial system and lack of fear of God.

"We choose the topic for this year's Ramadan lecture because of the abnormalities in the country today and this abnormalityis predicated on the fact that, there's no fear of God anymore among the leadership and the followers.

"These abnormalities was also as a result of lack of trust among Nigerian leaders because the process of electing them was not truthful. So,  my advice is that truthfulness should be their watchword. When you are truthful whatever you do in life will end up well".
