Violence Mars presidential Campaign in Ogun as hoodlums pelt Buhari, Others

Pandemoniu broke out at the All Progressives Congress Presidential rally in Abeokuta; the Ogun State when political thugs pellted President Muhammed Buhari and some APC Chieftains in a bid to protest the alleged imposition of candidates for the forthcoming general elections.

It took the intervention of security operatives at the campaign ground that shielded President Buhari during an outbreak of violence at the rally which brought to an abrupt end after Buhari raised the hand of Dapo Abiodun, the APC governorship candidate in the state.

Immediately, the president raised Abiodun’s hand, some aggrieved persons who are supporters of APM threw objects towards his direction, forcing security operatives to form a ring around him.

The aggrieved persons had earlier pelted the national Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole with stones and chased supporters of Abiodun from the stadium.

Before the arrival of the president, suspected thugs destroyed the publicity materials bearing Abiodun’s name and pictures.

They also attacked supports of the governorship candidates who wore yellow T-shirts branded in his name.

Speaking at the rally, President Mohammadu Buhari had charged all Nigerians to vote for candidates of any party of their choice.

Buhari, who made the call on Monday in Abeokuta; the Ogun State capital during his re-election campaign held at M. K. O. Abiola International Stadium, said he doesn’t have any problem with candidate or party voted for during the general elections.

“Choose whoever you want to vote for during the elections. I do not have problem with any candidate or party you will vote for during the elections. Allow the people of Ogun State to chose whoever they want. Let them decide whom they want”.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun at the rally, said Please dont disgrace me here,God will not destroy your work “everybody should swallow his/her pride. Let us swallow our anger. Do not allow the President and his campaign train leave the state with an impression that we are not for him in Ogun State”.

“The entire Ogun people are for President Buhari. We are not just supporting Buhari for supporting sake, we are supporting him because of his achievements in less than four years in office.”

“Buhari is a man of his words. You can sleep with you two eyes closed because he is a man of his words.

He said, fore the emergence of Buhari in 2015, all infrastructure in the country are in comatose , but he has been able to put the nation back on track by repositioning the nation’s economy.

He noted that those who are against the re-election bid of Buhari are looters

He said the Dapo Abiodun support group are less than 5% and that they are insignificant in the state polity.

On his part, Vice President Yemi Osibajo assured that a vote for Buhari in the Presidential election will guarantee job opportunities for unemployed youths, grants for markert men and women as well as improve in power generation.

He assured that Buhari will fulfill all his promises if given another chance to rule the country for the next four years

The national Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomle solicited for support of all Ogun State indigenes for the ruling APC candidates in all the elections.

Speaking at the rally, former governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola said the rally was purely APC, describing anybody carrying flag or banner of any other party as hypocrites.

He therefore enjoined all Ogun indigenes to go out enmass and vote for all candidate of the APC in the coming elections

“This rally is mainly an APC event. Anybody carrying flags or banners of any other political parties are hypocrites.”, Aregbesola said.
