The Ogun State Governorship Candidate of Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Adekunle Akinlade, on Sunday, said he was not betrayed by the actions of the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, but rather take the controversy surrounding the APC guber primary in the State as the wish of God.
The governorship candidate while featuring on a Channels TV Politics Today, revealed that the National Chairman of APC was the first to know about his governorship ambition even before the incumbent Ogun Governor, senator Ibikunle Amosun.
He said that Akinlade said his ambition started with the national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in July 2017 to speak with Amosun on his behalf.
The “Oshiomhole didn’t betray me, God sometime do something to strengthen we human being and even moved beyond that and confident of what the future holds for us.”
“The issue of imposition doesn’t come at all. In July 2017, I met Comrade Oshiomhole in his private residence in Abuja and told him that I was interested in becoming the governor of Ogun State and because he has had a successful transition in Edo State, I thought he was in the best position to speak with Governor Amosun to give me the opportunity.
“It was after which I went to my constituency for consultation and across the state, thus is a process that took almost seven month.
“I am not Amosun’s errand boy, it’s about merit and justice, electoral fraud, the worst of that in the history of this country was perpetrated in Ogun State and what happened is INEC going to Benin Republic to write 2019 election and come to Abuja to announce the result and you want people to accept it.
Speaking on the fraud allegations against the guber candidate, Akinlade dispelled the rumour making the rounds that he was indicted of fraud running into millions of Naira while serving as the Senior Special Assistance to Governor Ibikunle Amosun on taxation between 2011 and 2014.
He said, “Not at all, not to my knowledge, you must understand this, with the way out country is, I am a sitting member of House of Representatives and if that was true, I should been cooling off with ICPC or EFCC by now, not at all.
“In politics, such allegation will naturally come but the fact is that its not true, I have heard many things, and it is natural. I wasn’t aware of any committee was set up, I got to know when I made my intention known that I am running for governor and when you want to run, you will be shocked what people will say.
“There’s has never been any time any investigation was carried out on me, is a democracy, you can come to Ogun State and enquire of even EFCC of that is possible.”
Akinlade who promised to focus on education, if elected, also promised to deploy technology to monitor tax compliance in the state.
He also promised to increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State to 10 – 12 billion monthly without imposing additional tax on people.
