The Chairman of the agency, Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Chief Superintendent of Police in a press statement made available to journalist said the ‘Awawa Boys’ were arrested during an enforcement operations carried out around Capitol, Isale-Oja and Agege.
He regretted that most parents have abdicated their responsibility toward their children, saying the youths are now deeply into gangsterism. Egbeyemi added that most of the violent crimes committed were perpetrated by teenagers who lacked parental care.
He said the agency would continue to raid all other areas known to be inhabited by undesirable elements as directed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, that all those arrested be charge to court for prosecutions.
A resident who refused to be identified commended the enforcement team of the agency and said he can now drive home safe without any fear of being harassed by miscreants who often lurk around available corners at night and rob innocent members of the public of their valuables such as phones, jewelries and wallets around Shita area of Surulere.
He however requested for a comprehensive raid by the agency on all miscreants and hoodlums disturbing innocent residents around the entire Surulere metropolis.
According to Egbeyemi, the agency is sets to clampdown on all illegal traders on railway tracks across the state, adding that, heavy convergence of illegal traders selling and buying goods around railway tracks is suicidal and eye-sore.
“Strategically this unusual and very risky trading practice has led to the death of some people, especially those who were not quick enough to depart the scene for an oncoming train,” he said.
Egbeyemi maintained that in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Law, it was completely unlawful for anyone to hawks or buy/sell goods on railway tracks including all road setbacks and walkways across the State.
