AWCON 2018: How Super Falcons beat Cameroon, pick World Cup ticket

Nigeria’s senior women football team, Super Falcons, on Tuesday, beat the Lionesses of Cameroon 4-2 on penalties to qualify for the final of the 2018 African Women Nations Cup in Ghana.

The win also earned the team one of the tickets for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France next year.

The AWCON 2018 first Semifinal game ended 0-0 at the end of 120 minutes and a penalty shoot-out was needed to determine the winner.


Super Falcons will be waiting for the winners between South Africa and Mali in the second Semifinal to know their opponents in the final on Saturday.

Onome Ebi, Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala and Ngozi all converted their penalty kicks while Rivers Angels goalkeeper, Tochukwu saved two penalties to ensure the Nigerian side took the day.
