FG to engage indigenous firms for national security projects

The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, says Federal Government will hplace premium on the use of indigenous firms and professionals in the design and execution of projects involving national security.


Onu, who spoke yesterday through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bitrus Bako Nabasu in Port Harcourt at the South-south Dialogue on the Executive Oder No. 5, said foreign experts would only be engaged only if such expertise is not available in Nigeria.

He said that even when the foreign experts were engaged, Nigerian professionals would be attached to understudy them.

He said all ministries, departments and agencies of government were to take steps to encourage indigenous professionals in the Diaspora to return home and use their expertise to develop Nigeria.


He said it was on that basis that a delegation from Ministry of Science and Technology recently visited three states in the United States
.
He said: “Based on this, the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, shall establish centres for acquisition of technology in the six geopolitical zones of the country.
