A Second Republic House of Representatives minority leader, Sanda Konduga, has petitioned the National Human Rights Commission over an alleged unlawful extension of the detention of his son, Ali, by the Department of State Security.
He asked the Federal Government to pay him N500 million as compensation for the alleged unlawful act.
Ali was sentenced to three-year imprisonment by a Magistrate Court presided over by Oyebola Oyewumi in December 2011, in a case bordering on terrorism.
The court, however, said the suspect should serve the period in DSS facility which he did.
Ali, an alleged Boko Haram ex-spokesman, had pleaded guilty on November 22 to some of the charges filed against him, which related to threatening text messages sent to politicians during his time as the purported spokesman of the Boko Haram.
He reportedly pleaded with the court for leniency, pledging to help authorities tackle Boko Haram.
Konduga, therefore, wondered why his son was kept in custody Up till 9th of December, 2016; a development that aggravated his mental challenges.
