The duo of Former Senate President, Senator David Mark and the Governor of Sokoto State, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, both of whom are presidential aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 general elections, stormed Ibadan, Oyo State capital on Wednesday, where they formally unveiled the motives behind their political aspirations.
Senator David Mark, while addressing PDP delegates at the party's state secretariat at Molete, Ibadan, early in the day, said his motives for aspiring for Nigeria's Presidency was not for personal aggrandisement but in the national interest, and specifically "to work with other intellectuals to rescue Nigeria out of the present unfavorable socio-economic upheavals".
He said: "It is not about myself, but about Nigeria. Mark my words. I may be the last aspirant to obtain nomination form. There are 13 of us jostling to get the Presidential ticket of our great party. But let me tell you, either me or any of the remaining aspirants who emerges as the party’s candidate at the end of the day, I am ready to work for the party. It is not about myself, it is about the interest of our great party and our dear country. I have remained in the PDP since it was formed, and I have never for one day thought about leaving the political party for another one. At the end of the primaries, either I win or lose, I will remain in PDP and support
The former Senate President assured that he would transform Nigeria within just 730 days, if elected the President of the country in next year’s polls saying he knows the problems of the country as well as the solutions.
But he insisted that for the PDP to win the 2019 presidential election, leaders of the political party must ensure free and fair credible primaries.

The Governor of Sokoto State, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal who arrived Oyo PDP Secretariat at about 9.15 p.m. informed the eagerly waiting party delegates that his commitment to the unity of Nigeria had made him to yield to the calls from people of goodwill to vie for the nation's Presidency.
Tambuwal noted that things are not going well in the country promising to do something to fix it, if given the mandate at the 2019 polls.
He listed his cardinal programmes as including provision of jobs for the teeming unemployed youths and women, improving the national economy, boosting security across the nation as well as stepping up the fight against corruption.
Tambuwal said: "There are lots of poverty and hunger in the land. We are therefore resolved to improve the economy and turn around the economic fortunes of Nigerians. And that can only be in partnership with the private sector. We will ensure that we put in place good policies that will drive the economy of the country alongside and in collaboration with the private sector."
