Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU),Ile-Ife in Osun State is in another storm again involving a female student of the Institution Efeosa Adagbonyin and a staff of the University.
However,this time,it was not the type of sex scandal which removed Professor Richard Akindele from the University when he was found liable over untoward act with Miss Monica Osagie, but a technical officer and a female student of the Ivory Tower
His ,instruction to a Security officer to detain the student at the security section prevented the lady from writing her examination despite her plea ,it was learnt.
The 100-level student of Educational Management reportedly missed a course in her first examination in the school for arguing with the technical staff of the institution.
It was reliably gatheredd that Adagbonyin, after sitting for her first paper in the first semester examinations on Saturday, waited for the second paper at the ICT centre when she was approached by the technical staff, who allegedly insulted her over her “borrowed” shoes.
Our correspondent learnt that the incident took a bad turn when she did not take the alleged insult lightly, which led to Adagboyin being detained at the security unit of the institution.
Her friend, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the 23-year-old Lady was detained at the institution’s security post and was not released until the examination was over.
. She said, “the man who is a technical officer called the school security to detain her and while they were taking her away, she told them that she had an examination by 12noon, but they did not listen to her.
“One Mr Adesina took her to the security unit and handed her over to a woman inside the office. She told the woman that she had a paper by 12noon but the woman ordered that her legs should be tied so that she won’t run away.
“Later, the technical staff went to the security post around 1pm and told them at the security unit that he did not have an issue with Adagbonyin and they should let her go.
“Adagbonyin quickly rushed to the examination hall only to discover that they had finished the paper. ” the source claimed.,
The student who is a single mother, who was invited to the security unit on Monday for interrogation after the case was posted on the social media by her friend, Ayobola Ojo, was blamed for the incident.
She noted that the 23-year-old was threatened with expulsion for sharing her ordeals on social media. The source said,
“She was supposed to write a petition on Monday but when she got there, her phone was seized and she was interrogated. She was threatened with expulsion.
When she narrated her side of the story, she was told that the security had the right to tie her down because there was a complaint against her, but the only mistake they made was that they did not ask what the complaint was about.
Sources said that the lecturer in charge of the missed course had refused to allow her to write a make-up paper, insisting that she would have a carryover.
When our correspondent contacted Adagbonyin, she declined comment, saying she believed that the school would give her justice addiLadding that She had made a formal complaint to the appropriate quarter.
The Public Relations Officer of the University, Biodun Olarewaju, said the incident was under investigation adding, “The lady making this accusation has not made a formal report; it is only what you bring to the notice of the university that the university will act on.
“We have procedures to report if your right has been infringed upon. We have always encouraged our students to report. If you cannot report to any of your lecturers, go to the Dean of Student Affairs, who is a father. OAU is a liberal University; if you have not reported to the university, how do we prove the allegations? However, without a formal report, the university has started looking into the case. I saw the post on social media and forwarded it to the security .
It was learnt that the lady would not be denied of justice.
