A family of three that runs a kidnapping ring at No.15, Irepodun Street, Egan, Igando, Lagos were over the weekend arrested by operatives from the Igando Police Division of the Lagos State Police Command.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang which includes one Akeem Bashiru, 32 years old, Ojo Solomon, 26 years old and their 60 years old mother, Aminat Karimu lured their victim through social media with a promise of either employment or huge sum of money to engage in gay relationship.
It was gathered that Bashiru and Solomon sourced for their victims across the country while their mother provided them with spiritual powers to talk their victims into agreeing to travel to their den.
On reaching their hideout, their victims are put in captivity and their family members are called for ransom to be paid.
Trouble however struck when the gang allegedly kidnapped Osahon Obazee and requested for N1.5 million ransom.
According to the Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal who confirmed the arrest of the trio, sister to the victim, Bridget Obazee, approached the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Igando Police station, CSP Taiwo Kasumu with the complaint.
Edgal said, “A complaint was received at about 4 pm on Spetember 7th, 2018 by one Bridget that her brother Osahon has been missing for days and that the kidnappers were threatening to kill him unless they pay N1.5 Million ransom.
“She added that they warned her not to involve the police else her brother will be killed. The DPO quickly contacted me and I ordered him to reinforce his team with men drafted from the Intelligence Unit of the Command and together, they left in search of the victim.
“Same day, at about 11pm, through discreet investigation, the suspects were arrested at the aforementioned address. Also rescued during the operation, were two other victims – Fadugbagbe Akindele, male, of No.7 Peace Crescent Salolo, Meiran, Lagos and one Ekwegbalu Augustine who was lured from Anambra state with the promise of a job placement in an Oil company.
“They had been held for weeks by the kidnappers pending payment of ransom by their families.”
The rescued victims have however been identified and reunited with their relations.
Speaking, Solomon who confessed to the crime said his mother empowers him and his brother spiritually, saying she uses charms (Juju) to intimidate and instill fear in their victims.
